My first job out of college was working in the marketing department of our local newspaper. One day, my boss shared with me that he jumped out of bed each morning, excited to head to work, and start his day. Personally, I like the challenge of working. I have always enjoyed learning from and working with colleagues. But on fire, jump out of bed excited to go to work? Definitely not.
I did like the idea though.
Deep down, I knew I wanted to help others in a big way. Eventually, the years and that desire led me to the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN).
Why I’m an IIN Health Coach
I started my career in corporate marketing, but I have dabbled in topics related to health, nutrition, and spirituality for more than a decade. My own health challenges convinced me that I would study health and nutrition if I could ever do things over again. Surprisingly, that opportunity came for me in May 2019.
My family was struggling more than usual with sickness and chronic inflammation. I took my four-year-old to the hospital for breathing treatments in the middle of the night. My grandmother was diagnosed with stage four tongue cancer and died four weeks later. I was tired of a health care system geared towards crisis care rather than preventive care. But mostly, I was angry about doing the “right” and “healthy” things, but still feeling terrible.
Then everything changed.
I went back to school and graduated from the world’s largest nutrition school, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. IIN changed the way I eat, think, and live. I am excited to work as a graduate and Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and thrilled for the opportunity to encourage others to live happier and healthier lives as well.
IIN’s mission is to “play a crucial role in improving health and happiness, and through that process, create a ripple effect that transforms the world.” Since starting my studies with IIN, I have seen a huge improvement in my own health and happiness. Now I’m excited to help create a ripple effect that transforms my family, friends and the world. I look forward to helping clients better nourish themselves and their families. Finally, what my boss shared with me is my reality. I am energized and excited about my work!
Considering Becoming an IIN Health Coach?
If you’re passionate about health and supporting others in their journey to becoming healthier and happier, health coaching could be the perfect profession for you!
Here are a few reasons I studied with and would recommend the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN).
Learn Conveniently from Home
IIN is located in New York. But as a Stay at Home Mom with a young family, I knew I couldn’t travel to study nutrition. Thankfully, all my IIN classes, coaching calls, practical exercises and exams were online and could be completed from home, or wherever I happened to be! All I needed was an internet connection and my laptop or phone!
Study at Your Own Pace
IIN allows you to choose from a 12 month or 6 month expedited program. I enrolled in their 12 month program. A new study module was released each week. This means I had a seven days to watch courses and review new content at my convenience. If a week was ever especially busy, I got to my classes when I could. So long as I was caught up for exams, my year was entirely self paced, and I could study entirely as my schedule allowed.
Challenge Your Perspective with Diverse Instructors
I enjoyed the diversity of IIN’s 85 rotating professors. Some teachers such as Mehmet Oz, MD, Andrew Weil, MD, and Deepak Chopra, MD were familiar to me. However, others such as Joshua Rosenthal, Elizabeth Dialto and Shaunna Menard, MD offered new voices and perspectives. Some teachers I agreed with. Others I adamantly did not. But I loved hearing from a diversity of perspectives and being encouraged to consider, try, and decide what was best for myself and for my clients.
Graduate with a Plan
IIN is the first and only program I’ve taken that taught me knowledge and also how to turn that information into a successful business. Throughout the program, we learned what works, what doesn’t, and how to turn our passion for health and nutrition into a thriving profession.
